Ex-town boss in terrorism scare

FORMER Hucknall Town manager John Ramshaw has been at the centre of a terrorist hijacking alert on a flight from Spain.

Ramshaw (50), who spent six successful years at Watnall Road between 1996 and 2002, was returning from a New Year break in Madrid with his wife Clare.

But just before their plane was due to take off, a knife-wielding maniac had to be bundled away by armed guards.

"But for the swift action of the Spanish militia, it could have turned very nasty," said Ramshaw.

"As it was, everyone remained calm. But it was very tense and there was an uneasy feeling when the flight was eventually allowed to take off some two hours later.

"We were very glad to get back on English soil."

Ramshaw is currently manager of Kidsgrove Athletic, who play a division below Town in the Unibond League.

Despite the scare, he says he has no intention of giving up flying. He makes several trips to the USA for football-coaching holidays.

"Our defensive performance at Bridlington, where we lost 2-1 on January 3, was far more scary!" he joked.
