Aikman hits winner in narrow victory for Yellows

In-form Hucknall Town started their productive Easter weekend with a 1-0 win at Mickleover RBL.

A youthful home side showed played their part in an entertaining Central Midlands League South Division game, although Hucknall were left ruing missed first half chances to have the game sewn up.

On a bumpy pitch both sides tried to play on the floor and the Yellows had the better of the opening with chances created for Adam Nelson, Joe Ashurst, Jaylee Hodgson and Jordan Phillips.

A combination of good saves and poor finishing, however, kept the scores level until Leon Aikman found the net with a left-footed shot from just outside the area.

As the Yellows failed to take further opportunities, Mickleover almost levelled but Mike Randall saved well.

The second half was more even with Mickleover threatening from long throw-ins.

Joe Ashurst shot over for the visitors and appeals that the ball had crossed the line from a corner were waved away.

In a tight finish Hucknall defended well to secure the points with centre back Dave Leak man-of-the-match.
