Steff Galinski scored the only goal of the game after 21 minutes when the defender found himself towering above the rest to head home Matt Thornhill’s deep corner.

In the sweltering Nottinghamshire heat, United looked comfortable against their lower-tiered opponents and dominated throughout despite failing to add to Galinski’s effort with key chances in scarce demand.

Rev James, Wade Hines and Niall Towle all shared decent first half chances to extend United’s lead but found Welfare ‘keeper Luca Wagstaff in an inspired mood.

The introduction of former-Notts County midfielder Alex Howes at half-time sparked some life into Basford but they remained untroubled as Kimberley did very little to worry the home defensive line.

James Clifton’s free kick late on nearly added some gloss to the score line but his low strike was again well saved by Wagstaff down to his left.

United continue their pre-season campaign on Tuesday 18 August when they host Jack Jepson’s Eastwood Community side.
