Steve Chettle’s men are currently enjoying fantastic form of late, most recently with 1-0 win at Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday which saw son, Callum, score his first ever goal in Basford colours and should Warrington Town slip up at home to Buxton, they will go into Saturday’s FA Trophy game with Alvechurch leading the way.

Lewis Carr is likely to be absent through suspension following his late dismissal against Celtic which could allow for Brad Gascoigne to make his first start since his return to the Club.

Captain Matt Thornhill will be hoping to prove his eligibility ahead of the game after he was altogether absent in the win at the weekend following a recent groin issue, whilst manager Chettle will take time consulting his staff over the fitness of Marcus Marshall after the striker made his welcome return from injury in Greater Manchester, featuring for just under an hour.

“It has been brilliant having Marcus back. We said at half-time on Saturday that we would give him 45 minutes, but he told us he was okay for an hour and to get him through injury free is a massive feather in our cap,” Chettle said after their win over Stalybridge.

“Cameron [lead physio] and his staff, as well as the Sports Science team have been brilliant. We have had to be really careful with Marcus and on Saturday was his first start of the season and he did well for us – the work rate he put in was fantastic.” He added.

With three players recently going out on loan for match sharpness and experience, Chettle named 16-year-old Kiarn Nyemba on the bench for Saturday’s game after his recent exploits in the FA Youth Cup and also invited fellow youth player Sam Newell to travel with the squad.

“It is really good for them to get this kind of experience under their belt,” Chettle said.

“Kiarn [Nyemba] scored the equaliser on Wednesday night in the Youth Cup. He is a 16-year-old kid, a community boy in our education facility who has done really well.

“Sam Newell was released by Mansfield Town at 16, came in to our education department and has scored nearly every game this season and they both deserve to see what the first-team is like – it is great experience for them and I hope they can take a lot from it.”
