Bulwell FC's future hangs in the balance

Radford will leave his position as chairman at the end of the current campaign due to family reasons, concluding an 11-year association with the Notts club.

But he is yet to receive a single enquiry from anyone willing to take over the reins or fill the various other positions he and his family have taken on in past years.

Without interested parties coming forward before March 31, the deadline by when Radford has to inform the Football Association of the club’s plight, Bulwell FC will disband.

He said: “No-one has come forward to take on the vacancies. I don’t know whether the club will be here next season. Hopefully someone will take it on. It would be a shame to see another club fall by the wayside.

“Unfortunately, there is nothing more I can do. I can assist in some capacity next season but due to family reasons I have to step away from the day-to-day running of the club - it’s a 24/7 responsibility and I can’t do it anymore.”

He added: “If no-one comes forward before March 31 then the club will disband. I have to notify the FA by 5pm on March 31 whether we can carry on. I have to have staff in place to fulfill the various roles and let them know.”

Radford reflects fondly on his years with Bulwell FC - the club was granted Charter Standard in 2013 and reached Step 7 of the football pyramid for the first time in its history - and has offered to assist any new chairman.

“It would be a big shame to see it go,” he said. “I feel like I’ve done a decent job and got the club to Step 7 but I can’t take it any further. Hopefully someone else can. It would be a shame to see the club finish.

“We need someone with knowledge of the system as it is now and knowledge of the game. It’s a very much computer-based position now so whoever might come in will have to be PC literate.

“They don’t have to have deep pockets. The club is financially stable.”

On the field Bulwell went five games unbeaten in the Central Midlands Football League South Division from the turn of the year, with three wins and two draws, before Wednesday night’s defeat at home to Hucknall Rolls Leisure.

And Radford, who has been “humbled” by the numerous messages of support following the club’s announcement in January he was to be stepping down, believes there is a nucleus of good young players.

“If someone comes in I will be down to watch Bulwell FC every Saturday - there’s no danger of that,” he said.

The roles now being advertised by Bulwell FC are: Chairman, treasurer, club secretary, match day secretary, press officer, commercial operative, web and social media administrator, hospitality operative, match day operative, turnstile operative, reserve team secretary, reserve team treasurer and reserve team web administrator.
