Clipstone hold Seadogs in friendly

The home side would have been pleased with their team display against a very fit and strong Scarborough.

The visitors had most of the possession an,d with their fast pace style of play, made the Clipstone defenders work really hard, which they did and came out of it unscathed.

With a makeshift back four due to work commitments and injurie,s manager Chris Millington will have been proud of his men, which will cause him a few selection problems for the coming games against Heanor Town and Ollerton Town in the next week.

Again Clipstone keeper Nick Siddons was in top form as he was tested on several occasions and came out with flying colours.

Full backs Gary Armstrong and Tom Carnall can also walk with their heads held high, coping admirably against the Scarborough wingers who included ex-Stag Ryan Williams.

Stu Hill and stand-in centre half Callum Mawby equally had a impressive game keeping the Seadogs’ attack at bay, which included Chambers, a trialist from the Hull City development squad.

At times Clipstone’s midfield did give the ball away too cheaply, but then again so did Scarborough’s.

Goalscoring chances were restricted to long range shooting with many going high and wide.

When the home side played the ball on the floor they were at their most dangerous, Liam Osborne and Dan Wood causing the Scarborough defenders all kinds of headaches which led to the opening goal of the game towards the end of the first half.

Osbourne dispossessed Davidson on the halfway line. He ran on at pace and found Dan Wood on the left side of the penalty area where, with quick feet and a maze like run he beat three defenders inside out. When he reached the near post, he pulled the ball back across the face of goal where player/assistant manager Steve Whitehead was on hand to net with ease.

As in many pre-season friendlies, there were a lot of substitutions in the second half.

But the second half was very similar to the first in a lot of ways with tough tackling and running at defenders at pace from both sets of players.

Everything that Scarborough had to throw at Clipstone was dealt with quite easily and frustration was creeping in on the visitors.

The Cobras were holding their own and giving some back. Captain Steve Carty was a real driving force in midfield and connecting well with Nathan Millington and Dan Wood.

From another counter attack, which involved Liam Osbourne, it looked like Clipstone could double their lead.

Carty broke down the left from an Osborne pass and his cross fell between Wood and striker Adam Wisdom.

Fortunately for Scarborough they got in each other’s way and blocked each other’s shot on goal. This later on proved costly as Scarborough levelled things up on 77 minutes.

One of Scarborough’s many subs, Thewliss, got onto the end of a ball from the left to bring parity to this game.

A 1-1 draw was probably a fair result as neither team really deserved to lose.
