Derby County head into Saturday’s fixture with Brighton with the aim of returning to their impressive form of a few weeks ago.

The loss against Wigan was hard to swallow. A side that took the rough approach and it paid off for them.

Derby could have easily won instead of drawing at Huddersfield. They had plenty of chances to wrap the game up by half time.

The win at Barnsley could have been a loss. Not a happy hunting ground in recent years, but Derby hung on for all three points.

Nobody expected much out of the Chelsea game, but the team came away with their heads held firmly high and they matched the Premier League side for much of the game.

Last week’s visit to Leicester has to go down as a bad day at the office. Simply outclassed by a better side. This was probably our worst ever performance at the KP Stadium. The home side oozed class throughout their line up and Derby were never at the races.

Simon Dawkins has been signed on a full transfer from Tottenham since the window opened and overall he has added an extra threat while the team are attacking.

What is a worry is the continual leaking of goals. John Eustace has played a major part this season in playing a holding role in front of the back four, but when he’s been absent, the defence has looked fragile.

The transfer window has been open a couple of weeks now and there is evidence that additions need to be made to the squad to enable it to continue with a promotion push.

Another holding midfielder, a natural winger and a left back wouldn’t go amiss!
