Jake’s Day as Alfreton Town defeat Basford United

An even first half was blown wide open after a minute of madness.

It began as Keiron Preston prevented Day’s point-blank effort before Nickcy Walker was brought down for a penalty seconds later.

Despite Preston getting a hand to it, Day’s effort nestled into the net as the power alone was too much to handle.

The second half failed to live up to its predecessor as chances for either team were few and far between with Kyle Dixon’s last-minute effort which was blocked off the line offering the only glimmer of action.

With the season fast approaching, the game offered both sets of players valuable minutes as they continue to build fitness.
