The manager has been approached by a handful of players who want to join the club, while many of last season's squad have also indicated they want to remain at Church Lane.

"Hopefully we can have a go next season," Tring said.

"We want to be up there. If we can get the players that we want in the squad, the right 16, I think we can be good enough to give anyone a game.

"Some of our key players work Saturdays and it's often sod's law they're working the weeks we play tougher opposition.

"But if we can improve the squad we can have a good season."

With football clubs from the top flight downwards having to tighten the purse strings following the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of players have been released from pro clubs and will look down the pyramid for clubs.

This could lead to a trickle down effect of players, with managers having more options available.

However, Tring also has a number of last season's squad keen to remain.

"The feedback I've had from the players is that they want to come back and they want to be playing again," he added.

"It's a good thing to hear.

"The end of season presentation night is normally the time we have a chat about next season with players but the lads seem keen to stay here.

"There are also lads who want to join us which could help us strengthen."

Linby were in top form when last season was halted.

Following October's 4-2 extra-time defeat to Eastwood CFC in the Notts Senior Cup, they went on an 11-game unbeaten run in the Central Midlands League Black Dragon South Division.

Their ony defeat in that five-month period was a League Challenge Cup reverse against Steveley Miners Welfare.

Now Tring hopes his side can take that momentum into next season and begin on the front foot.

"We want to pick up where we finished last season,” he said.

“We had six really good pre-season games last year and we would like something similar this season to put us in a good position."
