The home side dominated the first half, but were unable to convert the chances into goals.

Home right-back Ben Hilton felt he should have had a penalty in the 22nd minute when his jinking run saw him beat two Sherwood defenders before going down.

Linby felt it was a clear penalty only for the referee to wave the appeals away.

Danny Tring grazed the crossbar with a header from a Brad Newby corner on 25 minutes.

Newby then had a shot blocked on the line on 38 minutes, before Jack James went close from distance two minutes later.

It was the visitors who snatched the lead against the run of play on 50 mins when striker Joe Flint converted a Tyrone Macaskills low cross 57mins,

Linby had a goal disallowed for a push minutes later after Jamie Thomas headed in Ben Hilton’s cross from.

Sherwood doubled their lead on 63mins through Macaskills after a swift counter attack.

It left Linby with a mountain to climb with time running out.

But they pulled a goal back on 70 minutes after a great run and finish from Newby.

Tom Hilton had a shot blocked from a Newby poss two minutes later, before Travis Shooter went close with eight minutes to go.

Newby had a free-kick saved before Ben Hilton headed just over from an 84th minute corner.

But with time almost up, centre-back Ben Jones beat his man to head home a long Newby free-kick.
