Mansfield Town appeal fails against Krystian Pearce suspension

The Football Association have dismissed Mansfield Town's appeal against Krystian Pearce's red card last weekend.

That means the central defender will miss two games, starting this Saturday at Newport County.

But, thankfully, no further games were added to the suspension.

Pearce was alleged to have brought down Jamie Cureton in the 3-2 win over Dagenham & Redbridge, conceding a penalty, and was shown a straight red after being considered the last man.

However, replays showed the contact was outside the box and Stags boss Adam Murray was told he had a good case to have the card rescinded as the initial contact may have been initiated by Cureton.

But the FA disciplinary panel disagreed and upheld the ban, saying he denied a goalscoring opportunity, though they did change their minds on a red card for West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate at the same hearing.

Mansfield Town were unavailable for comment.
