Stags v Newport County player ratings
After a 1-1 draw in Wales on Thursday, the League Two Play-Off semi-final second leg somehow ended 0-0 after a thriller at the One Call Stadium last night, but the Mansfield players could be proud of a gutsy display and here Chad sports editor John Lomas gives his marks out of 10 for them.
Superb performance with some crucial saves to keep Stags in the game. Sadly could not keep out any of Newport's well-taken penalties.
Did all he could as skipper to inspire his side and defended well against Newport's route one attack.
Another fantastic rock solid performance as Turner, now fully fit at last, proves what worth he would bring if he stays. A man mountain in the heart of defence.
Did all he could to keep Newport at bay as Stags' superb defence chalked up yet another clean sheet. This youngster will have learned so much this season.
Drove well down the right against Newport and defended well
Tried hard but filling Neal Bishop's boots was a big ask of the youngster and he was withdrawn at the break as Newport were winning the midfield battle.
Gave his all and looked back to his all-action best at the end of a frustrating season of injury.
Tried his best to make something happen but destined not to be his night
So much better at left wing back with space to take players on and an absolute thrill to watch, pushed up into a front three after the break and set up Rose, but the goal would not come.
A superb night's work spoiled only by seeing his vital spot kick saved. Walker was all over the field, brought others into play and could have had a hat-trick, also missing a golden chance on 85 minutes.
Took yet more bangs to the head on a frustrating night when he came so close to a winner with a flicked header and a high finish. A season to forget for him.
A surprise return from injury for the play-offs, Ajose looked lively in his 15-minute cameo for Rose but didn't get a scoring chance.
Benning gave Newport added problems down the left after coming on at half-time of the 90. Had a free kick saved and set up chances for Turner and Rose.
Steady and reliable, Atkinson gave a mature and cool-headed display in central midfield when called upon for extra-time in place of Mellis.
Came on at the death to confidently bury a penalty in the shoot-out.
