“It has been ongoing the last couple of weeks and I am glad to get it all sorted. I can get on with things now,” said the pacey winger.

“It was a difficult time at Oxford with the lack of games, so I was champing at the bit when I came here. I think I’ve done quite well since I’ve been here. It’s been exciting and I am enjoying every minute of it. I hope that will continue.”

He has only been given until the end of the season, but feels the bid to extend that deal will force better performances out of him.

“It is a bonus for them and me and it’s going to keep me focused and bring out the best in me,” he said. “Hopefully I can keep on putting in good performances to the end of the season.

“We we have to focus on the job in hand which is getting points on the board.”

Brown may be joined by another former Oxford team mate this week as Stags try to complete a deal to bring Michael Raynes to the club.

“Michael is a good lad and a big character,” he said. “He talks well on and off the pitch. He is a big defender who attacks things and an honest player. He gives 110 per cent on and off the pitch and he is a good acquisition – a top lad.”

Stags have just had a two week break from action, which at least gave players a rare chance to enjoy New Year.

Brown said: “We have missed it. Playing so many games in quick succession and then to go without a game for such a long period was odd.

“I did quite enjoy kicking back on New Year’s Day and relaxing a bit and not having to get up early doors to play. We were also able to have a few drinks New Year’s Eve and it’s been a long time since we’ve been able to do that. So it did make a nice change.

“But it was also frustrating and now we are excited to get back out there on Saturday and get some points on the board.

“It will be difficult at Burton as they are riding high in the league. But I think we are heading in the right direction and we are capable of giving anyone a game.”
