CATLING’S CORNER STAGS BLOG: Fixture list bring some excitement

With no news this week on transfers we did get our excitement after the fixtures were announced.

It is going to be a really tough and exciting start to the season with a home game against former Stags manager Keith Curle’s Carlisle United.

That will be followed by Sheffield Wednesday away and Notts County away in the first week.

I always look out for the fixtures around Christmas as well as the games at the end of season and also the bank holidays, these being the most exciting games in my opinion.

The York bank holiday game is one in which I can see over a thousand Stags fans going to. A lot of my friends have already said they will be going to stay over to make a weekend out of it.

The last game of season being at home as well makes a huge change and hopefully we’ll be celebrating going into League One and seeing Notts County staying in this league or going down. Bit harsh I suppose but, oh well!

The Sheffield Wednesday cup game at Hillsborough is going to be a real thriller to go to as I’ve never been there before and will complete the full package for me around Sheffield as I’ve been to the Motorpoint Arena, The Crucible, Sheffield United and Sheffield FC’s ground.

On a separate note this week we got the news that Sir Matt Green was going to be down at the ground to try to sell more season tickets and meet and greet fans.

I also got word that with him being down at the ground we doubled the amount of season tickets from an average day than we did before the event which is a step in the right direction and is up at a thousand now.

So with there being another week for current season ticket holders to get their exciting seats I urge all fans to get down to the club and get renewing.

The only rumour I’ve heard this week signing-wise is Richard Tait from Cambridge, but that may not happen as yet as he’s on holiday – well, according to Twitter anyway!

There’s also the news that Sam Clucas could be going to Norwich. That could also be good news for the Stags as we have a sell-on clause in his contract so would see us get a fee, which could work out very well for us if we want a serious challenge in the league next season.

So to finish this I’m going to say come on Adam Murray’s barmy army and COYS!
