Argyle, who would have gone top with a win, dominated the game and created the best chances, only to be denied by a superb rearguard action from the Stags.

Aftre the game, Adams said: “It is definitely two points lost today, but it is very early in the season.

“It is not about going top at the moment, it is about putting together performances.

“We had plenty of good opportunities, particularly in the first half, but sometimes you have to go away from home and take a point.

“We probably should have been out of sight at half-time. “We played very well for the first 30 minutes and could have scored four or five goals in the first period when we totally dominated.

“I am delighted with the play we had. But we take a point and move on to the next game.”

He added: “We have played better than that at times, but we have hit the bar twice and opened up Mansfield on numerous occasions in the first half.

“Sometimes you don’t get the goal and then you have to take a point.

“Mansfield were always going to come back into it. They didn’t really trouble us, but they are a good side who have done well this season.

“We knew it was going to be difficult. They are quite a physical side and it is a tight pitch.”
