Miserable October ends for winless Shirebrook

Shirebrook Town will be glad to see the back of October after they slipped to a narrow 2-1 defeat to Cleethorpes Town at Langwith Road on Tuesday night in their final game of a miserable, winless month for the club.

Shirebrook had the better of a competitive first half, but they only had Aaron Moxam’s 27th minute goal to show for it as half-time approached.

And that proved not to be enough when Cleethorpes’ Mark Cooper levelled the scores with a minute of the first half remaining.

The second half was much more even and both sides had chances to win it, but Cleethorpes nicked all three points with Luke Mascall’s goal four minutes from time, which must have been a real sickener for the home side who deserved to get at least a point from the game.

Shirebrook end the month without a win in eight games, but Cleethorpes were left to celebrate moving to the top of the division after taking advantage of former leaders Shaw Lane’s home game with Louth Town postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
