Oliveira scored the only goal of the game for the Reds as they brushed aside Leeds to extend their unbeaten run in the Championship to 13 games.

Freedman said: “I was very proud of him. There was only me in the queue to sign him and I cannot honestly believe that.

“What a quality player he is and I am grateful for the recruitment system we have in place.

“I made a promise to Benfica that we will make him a better all round player and I think you are starting to see that.

“What really pleased me is that he was frustrated in the first half, but he is gaining maturity and his second half display was the perfect response.

“He did not just score, he worked hard for the team.

“We are not looking to make it permanent, we are talking about Benfica here.

“The relationship we have is that we will look after him in the right way and hopefully, in the summer, we will hand him back as a better player than he was when he arrived.

“The best option we have is to keep our relationship with Benfica and, while we do not have an option to keep Nelson, just maybe there will be another player there they can send us on loan. That is the plan.

“That is the relationship we have. Hopefully, if we look after Nelson, next time Benfica have a player they want to send out on loan, it will be us who gets the call.”
