NOTTS COUNTY: Sheehan ‘embarrassed’ after FA Cup exit

Alan Sheehan admits he is still embarrassed by Notts County’s FA Cup exit, but insists they cannot let national humiliation derail their quest for the play-offs.

County lost 2-0 to Salford City last Friday night in the first round proper - in front of a watching audience on the BBC.

“When I walked off that pitch at full time I was so embarrassed and it’s hard to shake off,” said Sheehan.

“I am as honest as they come and we simply didn’t match the heart and the desire and when you don’t do that, it doesn’t matter who you are, you’ve always got a big chance of getting beat.

“That’s what happened and we let everybody down.

“Unfortunately, the international break has come at the wrong time because there’s no better way of getting over something like that other than to pull the boots on again.

“We are going to have to wait now until next week, but then we’ve got three games in a week, two of which are at home.

“I think there’s always a danger of throwing the baby out with the bath water when you suffer a loss like we have, but don’t forget we went into the Salford game on the back of beating the best team in League Two.

“We were unbeaten in four and we’ve won six out of seven at home so we are very solid there.

“The aim is to break into that top seven and we are only four points off those play-off places.

“That’s a gap that’s easily retrievable.

“None of us played well and the only ones who can put it right are the players.”
