Sutton maintain four-point lead

FC Sutton Foresters retain their four point lead at the top of the Premier Division as a result of their eventual 5-3 victory over Woodborough United after their opponents had come back from 4-1 down to 4-3, thanks to a Dom Lynas double.

However Shane Tilley’s second strike of the match ensured victory for the leaders whose other goals came via a Harry Pride double and a goal from Lee Butler with Ricky Thompson completing Boro’s tally.

Tom Blaney’s double was all that second placed Old Elizabethans required to see off Wollaton III’s challenge in a 2-0 scoreline.

Goals from Dave Durham and Tim Rose provided Trent Vineyard with a 2-0 lead at the expense of Beeston AFC II, which proved just enough after James McHale brought the final score back to 2-1.

The two contenders for the Division One runners-up trophy both claimed victories.

Second placed Old Elizabethans II defeated FC Sutton Travellers 6-1 with James Prudence netting half their tally and Tom King, Jay Thompson and Tom King providing the rest, while goals from Jamie Petman and Dan Greatorex for Magdala Amateurs proved insufficient to prevent a 4-2 defeat by third placed Eaton Hall College.

Meanwhile goals from Alex Smith and Tony Warner enabled NRU FC to share the points with Bridon AFC in a 2-2 draw, which enabled Bridon to retain their five points advantage over their opponents, who sit next to bottom of the table.

There were mixed fortunes in Division Two for AFC South Wingfield 93 who, after their midweek 5-3 defeat of Old Bemrosians, which featured four goals from Jason Miles and a Mark Turner strike, went down two days later to MAFC, who were 3-1 victors with a Liam Hatfield double and a goal from Martin Lester answered by Jake Baranow.

There was no such similar fate for Southwell St Mary’s who, after defeating Alvaston United 3-2 after extra time in last Thursday’s Minor Cup Final, went on to defeat Old Bemrosians 6-1. Nottinghamshire III failed to find a reply to goals from Paul Bonson, Tom Patterson and Ryan Marshall in a 3-0 defeat by Old Elizabethans III.

Meanwhile, despite goals from James Barber and Matt Martin, Ashfield II continue to look for their first point of the season after an eventual 5-2 defeat by Sherwood Colliery.
