Greys bidding to conquer England

The Bulwell side, who have won the domestic treble for the past two seasons, are among almost 100 of the best Sunday teams in the country who have entered the competition.

And all are dreaming of walking out at Anfield, home of Liverpool, in the final on April 29.

Last season, Greys reached the Fourth Round (last 16) at their first attempt – before bowing out to a last-minute winner against East Riding side Orchard Park.

This time round, they begin their challenge with an away trip to Grantham Sunday League team Springfield Lions, who play at Cottesmore, near Oakham in Leicestershire.

The tie kicks off at 2 pm and any supporters wishing to go can book a seat on a bus that leaves the Three Crowns pub in Bulwell at 11 am. Seats cost 10.

Greys go into the game in good heart after a routine 6-2 victory away to newly-promoted Keyworth side Nottingham Alumni in the Notts Sunday Morning League's Premier Premier Division last weekend.

Hard-working Alumni, who were First Division champions last season, had as much possession as the visitors but had to pay lip-service to the quality of Greys' finishing.

The Bulwell side were restricted to just the one goal in the first half – man-of-the-match Mark Green amazing all with a cracking 25-yard volley.

But they forced five corners on the trot in a strong start to the second half and doubled their lead through old workhorse Norman Limb, who beat the offside trap to fire into the bottom corner.

Alumni wouldn't lie down and pulled one back with a sweet header from a corner. And then after Jamie Carter had volleyed home a headed clearance to make it 3-1, the home side struck again after a defensive mix-up.

However Greys settled it with three goals in the closing stages. Two came from tireless frontman Alan Jeffries, after unselfish work from Limb and sterling work from Green, and one from Damon Rennicks, who lobbed the 'keeper from inside his own half after spotting him off his line.
