Greys tighten their grip

REIGNING champions SCOTS GREY tightened their grip at the top of the Notts Sunday Morning League's Premier Premier Division with a 6-0 spanking of Radford Park Rangers.

Will Heath was Greys’ hero with a hat-trick, while big centre-forward John Manders netted two goals and Brett Duffy the other.

Lower down the Premier Division table, Hucknall side PLOUGH BARFLIES were edged out 2-1 by third-placed Redhill.

Aaron Potter was on target for Flies but goals from Anthony Gregory and Carl Wainwright won the points for the home side.

The match of the day in Premier Division One saw ROLLS-ROYCE LEISURE (SUNDAY) surrender their 100% record at home to newly-promoted rivals Trowsers, who also pipped them to the Second Division title last season.

However quite how they lost 2-1 is a mystery because Rolls turned in their best league performance of the season and peppered the visitors’ goal for 80% of the game.

Bossing possession and forcing a string of corners, Rolls did very little wrong but were unhinged by one freak goal and one wonder goal that gave Trowsers a 2-0 lead at the break.

The first was a 45-yard up-and-under from Jody Hughes that curved cruelly in the wind and deceived debutant goalkeeper Carl Spibey. And the second was a rasping 30-yard free-kick into the top corner from full-back Wayne Loseby.

In the second half, Rolls piled on the pressure, inspired by man-of-the-match Ian Paterson, but Trowsers, happy to sit deep and play on the break, soaked it all up. And by the time the locals did finally find a way through, when substitute Alistair Murray slid in a telling cross from Nick Davies, it came too late to be anything more than a consolation goal.

n ROLLS LINE-UP (4-4-2) – Spibey/ Anderson Harrison B. Parkin G. Dickens/ Davies Paterson I. Parkin L. McDermott/ Harrison R. Start A. Subs: Murray (for Harrison B. 68), Niblett (for Paterson 79), Tolley, Paterson D., Hannigan.

In Premier Division Two, a hat-trick by slithery striker Damian Mann helped ROLLS-ROYCE VILLA to a 5-0 victory at Rempstone.

Colin Woodward and veteran Gary Stones were also on target in a win that lifted Villa to within two points of leaders BULWELL RANGERS, who didn’t have a game.

Meanwhile a delayed Premier Section Cup, Third Round (last 16) tie resulted in a 4-1 defeat for First Division GEORGE STREET away to Premier Division Clumber.

Daniel Blake bagged the Hucknall team’s goal, in reply to strikes from Jayford Henry, Robert Faulkner, Wes Burke and Carl Westcarr.
