Lammas celebrate Blackpool success

Sutton’s Lammas Ice Skating Club are celebrating success at the 47th Blackpool Ice Skating Festival in April.

Lammas ended up winning the Pleasure Beach Aggregate Trophy, beating Blackpool by some points for the first time in many years.

The club, which is based at the ice rink at Lammas Leisure Centre, Sutton, attended the festival at the famous Arena at Blackpool Pleasure Beach with 39 skaters entered in various classes aged five-15 plus a number of adult skater, who train at the Lammas Ice Rink, taking the total to 46 skaters.

Skaters competed in different categories in figure skating, compulsory ice dance, free ice dance and exhibition skates, obtaining a wonderful set of results individually and as a club.

All the skaters train at the Lammas Ice Rink on club nights which are held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and offer a structured programme of improvement for skaters who have achieved their NISA Gold Level and above.

This is achieved by completing the Skate UK levels 1-10 with the NISA licensed coaches at the Lammas Ice Rink.

Lammas also held their internal club Pop Competition where skaters perform a two minute routine to their own choice of music, with props.

They were judged on costume suitability, musical interpretation and entertainment.

There were two categories for age 10 and under, and age 11 and over plus a special Brittains Trophy.

There was also a Taylor Buckley trophy for the skaters’ choice for two categories.

Category 1-10 years and under - 1st place Alana Pang, 2nd place Kayla Gilberthorpe, 3rd place Abbie Sumner.
