New winners for pool league

With last season’s Champions, The Towers, deciding not to enter a team this year, the Mansfield Pool League will be certain to have new winners this time around.

Early pacesettershave been league veterans The Redgate and newly-formed outfit Forest Town Welfare B, who are captained by Roger Webster.

Both teams have raced out of the blocks during the first month of the season with four victories and one defeat from their five games. Forest Town B sit top on frame difference at present.

Perhaps the most surprising team so far during the early stages are Black Bull, who have won three and lost two of their first five games. They sit in joint second position, despite finishing last season one place away from bottom spot.

Last season’s league runners-up Bowl in Hand have also made a slow start, winning just twice during their first five games.

Remarkably, however, the wins did come against leaders Forest Town B and second place King’s Arms, the Bowl once again proving that they are a match for anyone on their day and very much a team for the big occasion.

The Top House B, who recruited several players from the folded Towers team of Champions Elect, have also made a somewhat mediocre start, winning twice and losing twice from their first four games.

Propping up the table is Bull Farm, who have experienced a disastrous start, winning none of their first four matches and have so far only won 14 frames all season.

Just in front of them are both teams from The Wheatsheaf, who sit on two points.

The B team, however, are the only side in the league to experience a 9-0 whitewash so far during this campaign.
