Ollie again scoops top title at Active Ashfield awards night
Ollie Hynd’s success in the pool once again earned him the Disabled Sportsperon Award and, in recognition of receiving an MBE for Services to Swimming in May this year, Ollie’s parents also received a Special Achievement Award on his behalf from the chairman of Ashfield District Council, Coun Linford Gibons.
Special Achievement Awards were also presented to Ashfield School’s Sports Leadership Academy, in recognition of receiving Sports Leaders (UK) Academy Status, and to the Catch 22 Project New Horizon Team, who completed an expedition in Iceland earlier this year.
Clive Morris of Ashfield Juniors Hockey Club picked up this year’s Service to Sport Award for his contribution to community sport and to hockey at all levels for over 35 years.
The Junior Disabled Sportsperson was awarded to Meg McFarlane from the Lammas Ice Skating Club for winning gold medals in both the Special Olympics GB International and the Inter-Nation Inclusive Skating Competition.
Kickboxer Ebony Upton, from Selston, won the Junior Sportsperson Award ahead of 33 other nominations.
In August this year she travelled with WUMA Great Britain to compete in the World Martial Arts Games in Switzerland.
In Korean patterns she took the silver medal and in two light continuous sparring competitions she gained one silver and one gold.
The event included performances from Ashfield’s Gotta Dance performers and Ashfield District Council Workplace.
