Scarborough took a 26th minute lead, Preston saved from Nathan Valentine and from the resulting corner Bailey Godda drilled a low shot through a group of players into the net.

Injuries to Greg Tempest and Ellis Storey forced Basford into changes which did nothing to improve their rhythm.

Six minutes into the second period a long cross by Valentine was headed in by Michael Coulson to double Scarborough’s lead.

Nat Watson gave Basford hope after 77 minutes, scoring from close range after Kole Lambert’s low cross, but Coulson restored Scarborough’s two goal advantage just a minute later, scoring from the penalty spot after Kieran Fenton brought down James Walshaw.
