Town boss Nicks new centre-half

HUCKNALL Town's leaky defence has been bolstered by a player-of-the-year winner from last season.

Yellows boss David Lloyd has raided his former club Gainsborough Trinity to sign centre-half Nick Ellis on loan for a month.

Ellis (23) was voted the player of the year last season by former Gainsborough boss Paul Mitchell. But he has fallen out of favour with the current manager, Steve Charles, and has now been given the chance to resurrect his career at Watnall Road.

Ellis made his Town debut in the 4-2 defeat at Hyde United last Saturday and was made to work hard against The Tigers' pacy attack.

A big defender, Ellis is a former Sheffield United trainee who had a loan spell at Fleetwood Town last month. He made one first team start for the Unibond League, Premier Division high-flyers.

Lloyd knows all about the player because he played under the Town boss when he was assistant manager at Trinity.

Lloyd said: "Nick should do well for us. He was a regular player for Gainsborough while I was there so I know what he can do."

Ellis was signed after Russell Cooke was ruled out for the season with a double fracture of his cheekbone.
