Trying to trace the roots of football league

I AM trying to trace the roots of the Nottinghamshire Football Combination League, which was formerly the Bulwell and District League.

I know that the Bulwell and District League was re-formed in 1950 with George Tedds being prominent in its rebirth. We changed the name to its present title for the 1965/66 season as it was thought the old name suggested that only clubs from the Bulwell and Hucknall area qualified for membership.

I know that the Bulwell and District League was founded in 1895 but I have little or no information about anything prior to 1950.

I do have the W.L.P. Rowley Cup, which was presented to the league with the date on it being 1905, plus the Sir Julien Cahn Trophy, dated 1922, and the William Rigley Shield again, dated the early 1900s.

I am given to understand that the name Nottinghamshire Football Combination League was adopted because it was founded in 1895 the same time as the Bulwell League.

I have been with this league since 1962 (45 years) and secretary since 1971 (36 years). I am now 77 years old and before I depart this life, I would like very much to see the history of the league clearly set out for future generations to reflect upon.

If any Dispatch readers could point me in the right direction or be of any help, I would be very grateful.

EDDIE VARNEY,

Secretary,

Notts Football Combination League.
