nTWO goals from Janine Willows sealed victory in the Notts Girls League Cup final for ROLLS-ROYCE LEISURE LADIES, who beat Rise Park 2-1.

Rolls had failed to beat their opponents in the league, drawing once and losing the other encounter, so they were out to make amends.

And Willows came up with the goods when a hopeful ball into the box was spilled by the Rise Park ‘keeper at the feet of the Rolls midfielder, who duly tapped home.

Rise Park replied ten minutes later after a good passing move down the Rolls right and in the second period, they forced the locals’ ‘keeper into two excellent saves.

But with the clock ticking down, Willows capped an excellent performance with a wicked, bending free-kick and even the harsh sending off of defender Lyza Wilkinson four minutes from time failed to dampen jubilant spirits.

Rolls now take on Nottingham Forest Ladies in the county cup final on Wednesday May 9 (kick-off 7.30 pm) at Calverton Miners Welfare’s ground.

Linby made a good enough start when Rebecca Collis scored after following up player-of-the-match Jasmin Bear’s saved shot. But rattled Forest soon hit back and made it 2-1 before half-time.

In the second period, defenders Shannon Colley and Laura Massey did their best to hold off the visitors but after the third goal went in, two more followed later.

Collis was unlucky not to grab a second goal when her shot was cleared off the line by the ‘keeper.

nENDURING a nervous finish, LINBY COLLIERY WELFARE LADIES UNDER-13S YELLOW scraped a 3-2 victory at Welbeck in the Notts Girls League.

Linby looked to have the game sewn up when they surged into a three-goal lead.

Sophie Whitley blasted home after two minutes and netted a second after a fine passing move involving Alice Clarke and Alex Francis. And after the break, Androulla Kokkinou tapped home Abi Wetton’s fierce free-kick.

But from then on, Linby endured a barrage of shots. One of their former teammates, Bethany Wilcockson, grabbed a goal back for Welbeck, who netted again in controversial fashion, despite appeals for offside.

Two goalmouth scrambles and a clearance off the line followed but the locals clung on.

nA LAST-MINUTE equaliser stopped Notts Girls League champions LINBY COLLIERY WELFARE LADIES UNDER-11S ending the season with a victory.

Instead they drew 1-1 with Arnold, despite dominating from the off with player-of-the-match Jodie Norman failing to put a foot wrong and working tirelessly.

Charlotte Nolan created three golden opportunities but failed to take advantage and Linby had to wait until the second half for the breakthrough when Katrina Bloomer hit a looping shot that bounced over the ‘keeper.

However Arnold had looked dangerous on the break and, in the dying seconds, they levelled with a well-worked counter-attack.
