Winning response from Yew Tree

Yew Tree bounced back from their first defeat in the Hucknall Wednesday Pool League with a good 5-3 win at Portland Arms.

Phil Gormley won a tight first leg for Yew Tree before David Lester levelled in another tight frame.

Yew Tree regained the lead with a pairs success for Wayne Bettridge and Dale Hyslop.

Steve Nicholls levelled at 2-2 for Portland, only for Ian Wikeley to put Yew Tree back in front. Portland pair Wayne Leatherland and Mark Bradley made it 3-3, but Yew Tree eased through the last two legs with Dean North and captain Karl Jones seeing them home.

Half Moon kept their challenge on track with a 6-2 win against George Street Ladies.

Richard Smith put Moon 1-0 up, only for an inspired Mandy Albon to level for the Ladies.

But Moon then took the next five legs through Shane Wood, Daniel Galloway, Phil Dalmedo and the pairings of Dalmedo/Steve McIntyre and Wood/Chris Thompson.

Andrea Green put in another good performance, taking the last leg for the Ladies.

Draw specialists Bentinck Newbies finally got their first win of the season with a 5-3 success against one of the title favourites, Chequers B (Formerly Nabb Inn.

Chris Edmonds got Newbies off to a good start, but Chequers B took the next two legs to lead 2-1 with Jay Smith winning the singles, and pairs with Adam Fowkes.

Three successive legs for the Newbies put them 4-2 up with Tony Flanagan, Alan Foster and the pairing of Paul Hibbard and Neal Dawn successful.

Jim Campbell pulled a leg back for Chequers, but Dawn took the last leg to secure the points for Newbies.

Green Dragon won their first match, defeating Bentinck Nomads 5-3.

Dragon went 1-0, 2-1 and 5-2 in front.

Their winners were Dale Brome (twice), Rob Lewis, Tommy Wilson, Liam Marshall, Nick Lester and Anthony Bishop, who took the winning leg.

Nomads’ winners were Alan Allsopp, Matt Dilger and Michael Bull.

Station B went top of the league after a well-contested 5-3 win at Chequers, condemning Chequers to a sixth straight defeat.

The match was well poised at 3-3, but successes for Station B’s PJ Singh and Paddy McShane in the last two legs took them to the top of the table.

The Legion teams had a mixed evening.

RB Legion B had a 5-3 win at The Tree Army, but RB Legion A suffered a remarkable 7-1 home defeat to Liberal.
