Dustin Johnson upstaged playing partner and Grand Slam-chasing Jordan Spieth by posting a seven-under-par 65 on day one of the 144th Open at St Andrews.

The Royal and Ancient face a race against time to get the 144th Open finished on Sunday evening after play was delayed on Friday morning because of heavy rain and with 47mph gusts forecast for Saturday. Play was suspended for over three hours on Friday after five hours’ worth of rain fell within 60 minutes to leave vast swathes of the Old Course under water. Head greenkeeper Gordon Moir says that 20mm of rain had fallen since 6am, with play resuming at 10am. (Telegraph)
