World record double for Kirkby lifter

Kirkby powerlifter Phil Beniston enjoyed more success in the WPU European Championships at Butts Arena in Coventry with two more world records.

Athletes from 11 different countries competed in the four day event in which Phil won the European Bench Press Championships with a new world record of 207.5kg (458lb), and the European Deadlift Championships with a world record lift of 260kg, narrowly missing his third attempt of 270kg.

In between lifting Phil passed his international referee’s exam and is now a category one international powerlifting referee.

He will now begin training for the IPL World Bench Press & Deadlift Championships in Las Vegas in November, followed by the WPU World Bench Press & Deadlift Championships two weeks later in Mexico.
