Critics of the plan to scrap district and borough councils in Nottinghamshire say the Secretary of State for local government has '˜poured cold water' over the '˜super-council' idea.
The council will be able to carry out more much-needed road surface improvements than expected thanks to a major increase in funding.
The recent funding announcement for local councils was further evidence of the growing disconnect between central and local government, with decisions being taken at a national level with seemingly no understanding about their impact on some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
