Boys and girls from across the village visited Santa’s grotto, met Micky and Minnie Mouse and crafted balloons with Mr Ballooney.

About 200 people turned out to the Christmas fair and light switch on event last Saturday, despite the rain.

There was a fair with stalls in the parish hall all afternoon, along with the entertainment for children, and the lights were switched on early evening.

Brinsley councillor Meryl Topliss said: “It was very well attended. People started coming about 2.30pm and by 5pm the hall was absolutely packed.

“We were so pleased because we thought the weather might put people off coming.”

Stalls sold jewellery, children’s clothes and crafts, and Brinsley Choir performed.

There was a carol concert at the village church as part of the day’s events and the lights were switched don by the chairman of the Friends of Brinsley Headstocks, Malcolm Tivey.
