Mansfield care homes join pioneering dementia care programme

Churchfield, and Sycamore and Poplars care home are part of the PEARL specialist dementia care programme (Positively Enhancing and Enriching Residents’ Lives) that has been attracting international attention because of its success in achieving dramatic reductions in the need for medications to manage the symptoms and a corresponding improvement in the wellbeing of people with dementia.

It is estimated that there are some 25,953 people living in Nottinghamshire with dementia and 800,000 people across the UK. This is projected to grow by up to 40% within the next 15 years.

The dementia care programme, developed by leading independent health and social care provider Four Seasons Health Care, has won numerous awards including from The Improvement Foundation for its pioneering excellence.

The care programmes use a range of therapies including reminiscence therapy, sensory rooms and music therapy. The home is designed with consideration of the impact of light, colour, contrast, texture and sound to assist the residents to orientate themselves and create a balanced sensory stimulating environment.”
