£10,000 raised for hospice thanks to Ashfield District Council metal recycling scheme

The scheme sees metal recovered at the end of the cremation process – including screws and handles from a coffin – and recycled by a specialist company.
Any surplus money generated from the process is then shared between scheme members who must donate anything they receive to bereavement-related charities.

Hide AdCraig Bonar, the council’s director of resources and business transformation, said: “The hospice provides a fantastic service within the district and we know there are many families that have benefited from their help and support.
"We hope this money goes some way to them continuing to support the local community.”
Sharon Williams, chief executive at the Sutton-in-Ashfield hospice, said: “The donation will go towards funding our ambition to fully refurbish the In-Care 12 bed unit, in what will be our 30th year of supporting local people in the hospice and out in the community.”
