Pupils test out their athletics skills

Budding athletes demonstrated their throwing, jumping and running skills when they took part in a ‘Quad Athletics’ event organised by Everyone Active.

Fifty-eight children from years 5 and 6 at Kingsway Primary School took part in the competition, which was held down at Kingsway Park in Kirkby last week.

Everyone Active, the company that operates Ashfield’s leisure centres, is currently running its Sporting FUNdamentals programme at the school and organised the event with support from Ashfield District Council and Sutton Harriers Athletics Club.

The children were divided into teams and battled it out in the javelin, 60m sprint, standing jump and relays, to claim first, second and third place.

All children received an Active Ashfield medal, t-shirt and Everyone Active goodie bag.

Sporting FUNdamentals helps youngsters learn and develop the fundamental skills of movement - agility, balance, co-ordination and speed - by giving them the chance to take part in different sports.

The aim is to ensure that every child becomes more active, more often and ultimately achieves lifelong participation in physical activity.
