St Katherine’s Church - The Vicar, Canon Dr Richard Kellett, chaired last Monday week’s church council meeting at the Scout Hut. Treasurer Yvonne Swain gave a finance report and churchwarden John Caunt, a fabric report. Last Tuesday week there was a prayer and Bible study meeting. On Thursday week members of Christian craft group met at the Scout Hut. The Curate, the Rev Kate Byrom, conducted Sunday week’s evening worship and led intercessions. The vicar celebrated Holy Communion and gave an illustrated talk called Servants of God. Hannah Kellett and Audrey Richards presented bread and wine. Gwyneth Allwood read the epistle and John Dunn was organist. Church stewards were Kathleen Hollis and Eileen Norman.

Women’s Institute - President Nancy Millward welcomed members to February’s meeting at the Scout Hut. Donna Guilor and Lily Fowkes prepared the room. Beryl Millhouse decorated the birthday table for Yvonne Green, Kathy Harris, Enid Oscroft, Kay Adkin, Wendy Bargh, Joyce Buxton, Margaret Cooper, Anne Dawson and Marian Bryan. Speaker Brian Naylor gave an illustrated talk about the working windmill at Heage, Derbyshire. June Wilkinson gave a vote of thanks. Lynne Bower and Colleen Green served teas and Jean Thompson, Norma Hardy, Lynne Bower, Pat Slack and Doreen Oliver tidied the hut and kitchen. A competition for gloves or mittens was won by Christine Whitehead, Pat Slack and June Wilkinson. Pianist was Margaret Iball.
