Eddie won the Youth Sport Trust’s Young Person Award, during the ceremony, held at Telford International Centre, recognising and rewarding best practice and achievements through PE and sport by schools, academies, colleges and young people.
On stage to present Eddie with his prestigious award were Baroness Sue Campbell CBE, Chair of the Youth Sport Trust, and Youth Sport Trust Ambassadors Darren Campbell and Gail Emms.
The Dukeries Academy will receive a visit from Olympic Silver medallist badminton player Gail Emms as part of Eddies prize.
The Youth Sport Trust National Conference, which is sponsored by Technogym, saw over 500 head teachers and school sport professionals attending.
A number of workshops and mini key note speeches featured discussion on the key issues in the PE and school sport sector, including a focus on how schools make maximum use of the Government’s £150m a year investment for primary schools.
Eddie said: “I’m overwhelmed to win this award, it is a real shock and a privilege.
“The sporting opportunities I’ve been given have been so helpful, so I really wanted to give something back.
“It feels really good to be recognised nationally, and I hope this will inspire more people to get involved with volunteering in their community.”
