Pictured in action against Notts County in August 1978, Clipstone-born Mick Saxby played 79 times for Mansfield and, after a successful time at Luton Town, turned out 15 times for Boro in 1985/86, eventually having a spell back with Stags as commercial manager. Photo: JPI
. ALEX JOHN-BAPTISTE
Sutton-born Alex John-Baptiste came through the ranks and was part of the Stags' 2003/04 play-off final team. The defender spent six years with Mansfield, playing 188 times, before going on to earn promotion to the Premier League with Blackpool and Middlesbrough. He had five seasons with Blackpool but his time at Boro was ruined when he suffered a double leg break 20 minutes into a pre-season friendly and moved on eight months later on loan to Sheffield United. . STUART BOAM
Kirkby-born Stuart Boam made almost 200 appearances for Stags between 1966 and 1971 before becoming a Middlesbrough legend after a £50,000 move. He was captain when Middlesbrough won the Second Division title and in eight years at Ayresome Park, Boam played nearly 400 games for Middlesbrough. But he returned to Mansfield as player-manager in 1981 for an unsucessful 18-month spell. Photo: JPI

Defender Brian Phillips arrived at Mansfield after making 121 appearances for Middlesbrough betwen 1951 and 1954. But after 104 Stags outings he was banned for his involvement in the 1964 British betting scandal, going on to manage local non-league sides. Photo: JPI

9. WILLIAM LINACRE AND WILLIAM WATKIN
Tricky winger William Linacre (left), was past his best at Stags in 1955/56 after spells at hometown club Chesterfield Manchester City, Middlesbrough and Hartlepools United. He played 13 times for Stags. Team mate and inside forward William Watkin (right) arrived at Stags from Boro for a substantial fee that same season, scoring four goals in 25 appearances. 10. LINDY DELAPHENHA
Popular Jamaican winger Lloyd Lindbergh Delapenha was simply known as Lindy and the first black player to turn out for the club in 1958-61 after joining for a substantial fee following eight successful years and 90 goals at Middlesbrough. For Stags he netted 27 goals in his 115 games on the wing before joining Hereford and then going home to Jamaica where he appeared on one of the country's stamps. Photo: Supplied
11. VERDI GODWIN
There was excitement when Stags boss Freddie Steele brought in centre forward Verdi Godwin from First Division Stoke City in 1949/50, but after only nine goals in 31 outings over two seasons in Divisoon Three, he returned to Division One with Middlesbrough where he failed to make his mark too. 12. BEN HUTCHINSON
Nottingham-born striker Ben Hutchinson's goal-scoring exploits for Arnold Town earned him a dream move to Middlesbrough for a deal worth £100,000 based on appearances. He his first senior Middlesbrough appearance in the Premier League game away at Manchester City on 7 October 2007, after coming on as substitute and scored. But he only played eight games for Boro. He joined Celtic and after several loans signed for Stags in 2012 on a free until the end of the season in the hope of getting his career back on track. After two-and-a-half years, Hutchinson was released at the end of 2013/14. He is now at Long Eaton United. Photo: MTFC
