Winning start at new home for pool ladies

The Notts County Ladies pool team played their first match at new home venue, the Spot On Club on Vine Terrace, Hucknall on Sunday '“ and made it a winning start.

National champions Notts boast a host of current international players as well as two time world and current European Champion Kirsty Lee-Davies.

In an entertaining match Notts Ladies won 24-20.

Last week in the Hucknall Wednesday Pool League RB Legion A put themselves on the brink of a second consecutive league title with a 7-1 win over Green Dragon.

One more point from their final three games may be enough but one win will guarantee the title.

Legion inflicted the 10th consecutive defeat on the Green Dragon with wins for Adam Stevenson, Dave Kellham, Steve Wood, Dave Stacey King and Dave Wainwright on singles and Wainwright/Stacey King and Stevenson/Wood on pairs. Rich Hyslop won leg four for Dragon.

Station B made it five games without a win, this time drawing 4-4 in an inter pub derby with Station A, despite surging into a 3-0 lead.

Danny Butler, Roger Green and the pairing of Butler and Andrea Green won for the B team.

Station A drew level with wins for Neal Dawn, Alan Foster and the pairing of Dawn and Paul Hibbard, before Station B went 4-3 up with a win for George Roy.

But the last leg saw Station A’s Paul Hibbard beat Paddy McShane.

Station B’s attention now turns to the KO Cup final against Yew Tree.

Besywood SC B had a good 5-3 win over third placed side H2O.

Alan Allsopp took the opening leg for Bestwood before Dave Ellis levelled.

Gary James and R. Deaton put Bestwood 2-1 up but Ash Smith hit back.

The next two legs were shared before Bestwood took the last two through Gary James and Rich Bull to move off the bottom of the league.

The Tree saw off Chequers 6-2, James Bettridge and Dave Salmon both won on singles and pairs with single wins also for Mick Salmon, Martin Giles and Joe Hammond.

Ben Hathersmith had a double of his own for Chequers winning on singles and pairs with Conan Robinson.

In the last game Liberal beat Bestwood SC A 5-3.

Matt Dilger put Bestwood 1-0 up before Mark Sheppard made it 1-1.

Bill Hardy and Bill Clark took the first pairs leg for Liberal but Dillon Robinson levelled.

Three legs on the spin from Liberal gave them the points, Ray Oldham winning on singles and pairs with Gary Smith followed by a singles success for Aiden Hewes.

Bestwood took the final leg for Bestwood through Jeremy Vickers.
