Nottingham Racecourse brings season to a close

Nottingham Racecourse brought its season to a close with a competitive card on Wednesday (4th November), which included a 14/1 double for top jockey Sean Levey.

Booked for six rides on the card, Levey picked up a straightforward success in the opening EBF Desert Crown Novice Stakes over five furlongs, with a pillar-to-post victory on board the Owen Burrows-trained Chevere.

Levey then followed that up with an impressive victory on board 10-1 chance Royal Poetry, who marked herself out as a filly to keep an eye on when bounding clear in the first division of the Conference And Events At Nottingham Racecourse Handicap.

Prominent throughout, the three-year-old kicked for home at the three furlong pole of the mile and a quarter contest and soon put the race to bed, with Levey keeping her up to her work to record a two and a quarter length success.

Royal Poetry was having her first start on soft ground this afternoon and she looks to have plenty of options moving forward after recording a third career success.

And the winning jockey feels that his charge will remain competitive around this kind of mark wherever she goes.

He said: “It was a straightforward victory and she’s a straightforward filly, I suppose is what you’d say. She’s danced many a dance and she’s at a mark where she should be winning again.

“I wasn’t sure about the ground, but it wasn’t a problem. The handicapper gave her a chance, she’s in the right race today and the ground was the biggest question mark for me anyways.

“The guy who travelled her said that she’s got big feet and that she’d be fine! It worked out well in the end, so it was a good result for everyone involved.”
