Hucknall and Papplewick both end season on a winning note

Hucknall rounded off a fine summer in the Nottinghamshire Premier League with a 51-run in at Wollaton to secure third place.

And just behind them, Papplewick & Linby ended up finishing fourth as they ended a superb second half of the summer with a 105-run win at Notts Arnold & Amateur.

Going into the final weekend, Hucknall knew they had a chance of finishing runners-up to champions Kimberley Institute if they could win and Cuckney lost to Mansfield Hosiery Mills.

Hucknall did what they had to do – but so did Cuckney, who beat Mansfield by eight wickets.

Batting first, Hucknall were indebted a fine third-wicket stand of 95 between Sam Johnson (71) and Oliver Horlock (41) as the rest were undone by Kiel Van Vollenhoven, who took 5-48 as Hucknall were bowled out for 189 in 49.5 overs.

However, Wollaton’s batters found the going just as tough as Saif Ali (3-13) and George Blatherwick (2-27) reduced them to 95-7 before Horlock (3-21) finished the job off at 138 all out in 33.2 overs.

Scoring runs was definitely not a problem for Papplewick as they piled up 344-9 in their 50 overs with centuries for Max Hunt and Sam Watson.

Hunt cracked 118 off 143 balls with 18 fours, while Watson bludgeoned 110 off just 63 balls with 10 fours and seven sixes.

Robin Smith also joined in the run feast with 52, putting on 98 with Hunt for the second wicket before Hunt and Watson shared a third-wicket stand of 179.

Adam Martin (51no) led Notts & Arnold’s reply, supported by Burhan Alam (45) and Arnav Jumle (43).

But the target was well beyond them as Dillon Singh (3-47) and Alex Moor (3-54) shared six wickets between them as the hosts were bowled out for 239 in 49.3 overs.

Other results: Attenborough 176 all out (Wilson 77), lost to Cavaliers & Carrington 179-8, by two wickets; Collingham & District 133-3 (Tew 65) beat Clipstone 132 all out, by seven wickets; Cuckney 224-2, beat Mansfield Hosiery Mills 218-8 (Rogers 78, Amarasinghe 55), by eight wickets; Kimberley Institute 265-6 (Burnhill 67, Weightman 62, Campbell 51), beat Caythorpe 191 all out (Ibrahim 73no) by 74 runs.
