Champion trainer Paul Nicholls’s giant grey is lumbered with an 8lb penalty for this staying novices’ chase. But he was so impressive when winning over these fences last month that he is taken to defy it. The six-year-old travelled powerfully and jumped like a buck, surprising Nicholls, who promised masses of improvement to come.
