Taking their name from a line in ‘Hooray For Hollywood’ – inspired by its jarring use in Robert Altman’s film The Long Goodbye – the rising Australian alt-folk five-piece blend classical training, DIY indie sensibilities and modern UK experimental influences into a widescreen acoustic soundscape.

Having built a fierce reputation on the road before ever officially releasing music – including becoming the first band to play Reading & Leeds Festival without a single released track – the group continues to solidify their status as one of contemporary folk's most compelling live acts.

5 Northern Ballet – Cinderella, Nottingham Theatre Royal, Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24

Masters of storytelling Northern Ballet are bringing their new production of the famous fairytale to Nottingham, performed to Prokofiev's famous classical score played live by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia.

This new version brings to life all the key elements of the traditional rags-to-riches fairy tale from evil stepmothers to a love-struck Prince, but with choreographer Michael Pink’s own spin as Cinderella is watched over, not by a Fairy Godmother, but by the spirit of her own mother, helping from afar to bring about her happily ever after.

9 Michael Portillo, Nottingham Royal Concert Hall, Saturday, October 24

Leading politician, Government minister, traveller, TV presenter, Michael Portillo will be sharing funny, insightful, and poignant stories from his extraordinarily rich and varied life.

The son of a refugee who rose to become one of Britain’s leading politicians and best loved broadcasters, Michael Portillo’s life has been a game of two halves.

As a statesman he served under Margaret Thatcher, ran for the leadership of the Conservative Party, and lost his seat in one of the most famous moments in British political history, only to become one of the nation’s favourite broadcasters, sparring with Diane Abbott and Andrew O’Neill and enthralling millions of us with his travels on the world’s greatest railways.

In this unique stage show, Michael will share his life story, from his late father’s experiences of the Spanish Civil War and escape to England, where he and Michael’s mother met while looking after refugee children, all the way to his present-day adventures travelling across Spain, the USA, India, and beyond.

Hear funny and insightful observations about his old boss Margaret Thatcher, his reflections on the decay of political power and his break into TV – including the time he became a single mum.

And, of course, he’ll talk about the great railway journeys he has undertaken and what they can tell us about the history and state of the world today.
