Ashfield councillor denies assaulting former Labour councillor

A Liberal Democrat Ashfield Councillor has pleaded not guilty to assaulting a former Labour councillor.

Coun Thomas James Hollis appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with assaulting Linford Gibbons on April 19 this year.

Coun Hollis, 22 of Fackley Way Sutton, is accused of opening a car door into Mr Gibbons chest and knocking his baseball cap off his head causing a minor scratch to his forehead.

The case will be heard at Derby Magistrates’ Court on October 12th.

Coun Hollis was given unconditional bail.

At the age of just 18-years-old and three months, Coun Hollis secured his Sutton North seat at the local council elections in 2011 and was at the time officially the country’s youngest councillor.

Linford Gibbons lost his Larwood seat at the last election to Independent councillor Jason Zadrozny.
