Mansfield: Kids enjoy free day trip to Skegness
The sun had his hat on to ensure 6Five2s’ sixth annual ‘fun run’ from Mansfield to Skegness was a red hot success.More than 400 children and their parents and guardians were given a free day-trip to the seaside thanks to the taxi company, assisted by coach firms McEwen’s Travel and Skills.Between them, they laid on 40 taxis and mini buses and four coaches without charge to transport families who attend children’s centres across the Mansfield area to the Lincolnshire coast.Centres included in the big day out were Mansfield Woodhouse, Titchfield and Oakham, Warsop and Meden Vale, Shirebrook, Oaktree, Bellamy, Ravensdale, Forest Town, Ladybrook and Pleasley.“It was an absolutely fantastic day that went without hitch and the fantastic weather we had really topped it off,” said organiser Barry Answer.“It meant the kids could get out and play on the beach - and they really loved it.“For some of these kids, this may be their only holiday of the year and the looks on their faces made all the hard work setting it up worthwhile.“I know John Davis, the owner of 6five2s, is passionate about the town and loves to see kids having fun, which motivates him to do this.”The day of fun started off when Mansfield Superbowl opened at 7.30am to give the children a free game. After the journey to Skegness, the youngsters all received free fish and chips from Simpson’s or Flippers Restaurant and an ice cream from Simon and Danny Wall’s Ice Cream. They were also given entry to a play centre thanks to Jango’s, a donkey ride courtesy of Chris Epton’s Donkey Rides and vouchers to access The Original Crazy Golf for just £1.East Lindsey Council helped out with cut-price parking and other businesses in the Mansfield area to lend their support were AFHI Ltd, Glenn’s Tyres and Dave’s Test Station.John McEwen, general manager of McEwen’s, added: “We were delighted to support the 6five2s on this. It’s a great way for the coach travel industry to give back to the community, and it’s wonderful seeing
